Dishcloth Fever!

Lately I've gotten into knitting dishcloths. Dishcloths, you say? Back in the days before dishwashers we used dishcloths to wash dishes by hand. How old fashioned is it to knit these when hardly anyone would use them? I found it to be a great learning experience. You get to practice stitches and patterns without a long term commitment, especially if you have to rip out rows.

In my dishcloth affair I have learned to increase, decrease, and to rely on a row counter. I also learned not to take a complicated project to knitting group because it is so easy to lose what row you are on while gabbing. I have thoroughly enjoyed knitting dishcloths. Now I plan on sending them to my mom and great aunt who will thoroughly enjoy using them, or not using them, and telling all of their friends that I knit it for them.

Here is the first dishcloth I knit. It was knit on the diaganal so I learned to increase and decrease.

My latest discloth is called Simple Weave. It's really hard to see the pattern with a variegated yarn. It turned out well but if I ever knit it again, I will definately use a solid color.

Knitting Newbie

I am a knitting newbie.

I started knitting in September 2005 and made several scarves to give away as Christmas presents. A lady from work taught me to knit and another taught me to purl. I really wanted to do more than just scarves and since I love any type of class, I signed up for a knitting class at my local yarn shop Knitcraft. I started taking classes in January 2006. It's more of a knitting group with a teacher who helps us with projects than a formal class. Everyone is working on something different and it's a great time. Most of the ladies in the group are older than me but I am not the youngest, we have a 20 year old among us.

I wish I had taken pictures of the scarves I made as gifts but hindsight is 20-20. I started taking pictures of my work in January 2006.

My very first scarf. I made this scarf for my husband in fall 2005.

My first hat. Also made for my husband (he's the official guinea pig!) This was my first project in the round. Although knitting with 5 needles was quite scary at first, I kind of like it now.

A little about me...

Hello again!

Let me introduce myself to the world. I am Beth, a 28 year old married woman who lives in the Midwest. My hobbies include geocaching and knitting, hence the blog name. I have 2 parrots, an African Grey and a Blue-Fronted Amazon, who constantly drive me crazy. But God love them, they are my children.

Hector, our little mimic.

Welcome to my first blog!

Hello world!

This is my first blog. Years and years ago (in high school) I made a few webpages dedicated to some of my fav tv shows but now it seems the www is full of people sharing their lives via blogs. So, I thought I would give this a try.

My posts will be focused on my two hobbies, geocaching and knitting as well as various life issues. Mostly this is just a way for me to share some pics and info with my family and the world. Please enjoy and welcome to What Row Am I On?
