Knitting Shock

I am in knitting shock. I mentioned in a previous post that my knitting group has taken a summer hiatus. I was sad about this but have moved on dreaming about the wonderful things I will make in the fall when we reconvene. There are a few other LYS in the area and I thought it might be fun to take a class at one of them since they offer a lot of project oriented classes and my knitting group was more of a "do what you want with teacher's help" kind of thing. So I found a class that looked interesting to me, Socks on Two Circs, and went to sign up this afternoon. The class was advertised at $35 plus supplies. So I'm thinking I need to buy the circs and I already have some sock yarn laying around, I'll spend $50 or so. Wrong!! I endend up spending much more because there was also a required pattern book for the class and the circs were expensive from the shop. It was almost double what I expected for it all.

I think it was such a shock because I have been spoiled in knitting so far. I have kept to small projects requiring no more than a skein or two of yarn and using the same bamboo needles for most projects. I just don't buy expensive yarns or accessories. My husband was unemployed until two weeks ago so I kept my knitting purchases in check.

The whole way home I kept telling myself that the cost would be justified because I could use the needles for years to come (they are my first Addi turbos!) and the skills I learn in the class will be worth it. The pattern book...not so sure that one isn't going to end up on ebay in a month.

Short Post

I've been very busy lately and haven't done much knitting at all. Two weeks ago I went home to visit the family. I did manage to drop in at a LYS that never existed when I lived there (of course!), Bella Lana Knitting. I picked up a daffodil to knit. I had never seen one before and thought it would be cool to try.

Last week was my birthday and I was busy doing stuff for my company's corporate challenge. Kind of like the olympics but for us average folk. I did manage to pick up a copy of the Yarn Harlot's second book, Yarn Harlot: The Secret Life of a Knitter. I've loved everything she's written so far. Who knew knitting could be so funny!

So this weekend is the long holiday weekend. We are going to see The DaVinci Code today. I read the book and am dying to see the movie although I admit, I hate Tom Hank's hair. That is not how I pictured a Harvard prof at all. Hopefully I will get some knitting done somtime this weekend!

Behind on the Blog

Too busy to knit. Life has been hectic lately. I went home over Mother's Day weekend and then the next weekend was my birthday. Hopefully I'll be able to post some knitting news soon.

On the Needles Again...

I'm trying to work through my knitting funk. I have switched to dishcloths which I hope to give as Mother's Day gifts. I finished another water can in pink and have started another pink dishcloth. I also found a lot of great dishcloth patterns at Melissa's Knit Dishcloth Patterns and I am hoping to start a few of those this week. I really like the Waving Frog pattern. My knitting group is coming to a close soon but I am okay with it . I have already started planning what I want to make in the fall. I'd like to make a shawl, my teacher has a beautiful one she knit with beads. I might also try a sweater. I would love to make one but I am a larger woman and a project that big is daunting. Maybe I'll make my smaller husband one instead??

I did get some free yarn this week. My teacher was cleaning out her stash and I picked up some Egyptian cotton. Don't know what I'll do with it yet, but it's gorgeous. And hey, who can pass up free yarn?
